Bikita Minerals recorded 365 days fatality-free shifts and without a Lost Time Injury (LTI). This achievement follows increased performance monitoring of SHE mechanisms after a fatality occurred in 2023.

Following the December 2024 Zero Harm achievement, Bikita Minerals has escalated its efforts through an aggressive SHE culture change campaign with the goal of moving the organisation from the stance of “thriving to achieve” towards an outlook of “thriving to sustain Zero Harm”. This is underscored by a transition in theme from Zero Harm is Possible to Zero Harm is Sustainable.

Bikita Minerals Safety manager Martha Simango said the company focus is now on personal ownership of the zero principles at an individual and departmental level.

“The new leadership in the department led by Vice General Manager Zheng Neng and Zhang Jia are at the forefront of a campaign moving the company’s focus , attitudes, beliefs and practices away from mere compliance and towards personal ownership of the Zero Harm principles at an individual level”

“As a result, focus is being placed on enhancing staff knowledge and education about potential hazards, as well as their features and consequences. This is because environmental stewardship and health consciousness are only practiced sustainably when they become embodied in the hearts and minds of people who comprehend their basics and consciously accept them for themselves”, said Simango.

The Safety department has in the past year conducted capacity development initiatives, targeting all levels of the origination’s structures, such as sessions on BSHEMC, training for SHE Representatives, leadership-focused courses including SHE Philosophy and Internal Auditing, the SHE Masterclass, SHE Coordinator, and Emergency Coordinator sessions which has closed any knowledge gaps employees had faced prior to the campaign.
