Bikita Minerals celebrated the International Workers Day through various sporting activities that include walkathon, marathon, soccer, netball, pool and darts.

The events were aimed at enhancing the wellness of the 1360 employees at Bikita Minerals.

In a speech read on his behalf Bikita Minerals Vice General manager Mr Jiang said the employer appreciated the work being done by each employee at the mine.

Mr Jiang said during the past year the company faced various challenges such as global market competition, but the company managed to increase production, record zero accidents in safety and environmental protection.

“Whether they are brothers on the frontline, sweating under the scorching sun in the mines, or the colleagues in the office staying up late to work overtime to ensure the progress of the project, I am deeply moved by everyone’s efforts. You have proved with your actions that ordinary work can also lead to extraordinary achievements. You are the most invaluable asset of the company, he said.

Bikita Minerals Mine Manager Mr Mwanza said the employee is an important stakeholder for the organisation and the employee contribution is always valuable.

“We want to appreciate the great work that our employer, Sinomine, Bikita Minerals has been doing and continues to do for us as the employees. The company has increased the number of employees five times more since they came through in 2022 and to date, we have 1360 employees directly employed by the company and we have 180 females. The number of females increased from five females to 180 females to date, “he said.

Management representative Mr Thomas Mufumi encouraged workers to work in harmoniously and invest in the wellbeing of their families.

Employee representative Mr Rodrick Tavarwisa said the May Day was an important day for honouring women and men who work hard every day.

“We appreciate our employer for giving us the jobs and I encourage all the employees to work hard and to adhere to the rules and regulations of our employer avoid absenteeism and stealing at work,” Mr Tavarwisa said.

Bikita Minerals offered the employees free medical consultation and its partners Nyaradzo, FBC Health, Zimnat Life also graced the occasion.

International Workers Day is celebrated in over 80 countries in Zimbabwe with the aim of honouring each and every worker and to appreciate the sacrifices they make each and every day
