Lithium giant, Bikita Minerals recently hosted a delegation from the Associated Mine Manager of Zimbabwe (AMMZ)during its third quarter visit. The delegation comprises of mine managers, suppliers of various services and products to the mining sector.
During the inaugural visits the delegation toured the pits and to the Spodumene processing plants, gaining firsthand insight into operations at Bikita Minerals.
Speaking during the visit, AMMZ Council member Mr. Gift Mapakame highlighted the importance of engaging with Chinese-invested mining operations in Zimbabwe.
“We have really noted, what can I say, apparent exclusion in terms of participation in these institutions that are established to support the mining sector and the Association of Mine Managers is not an exception. But the reality on the ground, and in the country, is the share of the sector that the Chinese investors have taken is quite significant, if not more than half of the traditional operations and establishment that we already have.”
“There is a lot gap in inclusivity that we are noting, more in particular if ,we are to accept that the investment is not just coming as top dollar, but is coming with technology, it is coming with skills and all those things are hanging out there and we are unable to harness those new establishment and just harmonise with what is there as an Association , ‘Mr Mapakame said.
Mr Mapakame said the association is involved in planning on policy framework and review of regulation and there is need for the association to include the diverse players in the mining sector.
Bikita Minerals Mine Manager Mr Experience Kagodi, said the hosting of mine managers at Bikita Minerals was made possible by the Managing Director Mr Xuedong Gong, investors and events like this serves as catalyst for propelling the mining industry forward.
“Our acceptance of the invitation to hosting this strategic event speaks volume about our appreciation for the gathering of industry senior captain and executive leaders like yourselves. We recognise the immense value that this meeting brings an opportunity exchange for groundbreaking ideas across the mining industry collaborating with key stakeholders, “Mr Kagodi said.
The AMMZ has been in existence for the past 51 years and was formed in 1972 to advance the science and practice of mining and supporting disciplines such as survey, geology, metallurgy. The platform is a vehicle for information exchange and dissemination and good practices and seeks to promote the study and growth of mining and allied disciplines.
